Synopsis

Ranger Tim Strong captures Lawson, a member of the Miller gang, which has been terrorizing the county. After turning Lawson over to the ranger captain, Tim soon finds that Lawson has escaped. During his investigation, Tim discovers a cork-tipped cigarette at the scene and realizes that his younger brother Jack, who smokes that type of cigarette, is responsible. Out of loyalty to his brother, Tim lets Jack go without revealing his part in the escape, and tells him to go to the town of Bayliss where Tim's old friend, Dave Sage and his daughter Ann will look after him. After Tim discovers that Jack not only allowed Lawson to escape, but is himself a member of the Miller gang, he also goes to Bayliss. Ann, who loves Tim, thinks that he is not hard enough on the worthless Jack and begs him not to protect him any longer. Tim promises Dave to help him stop the Miller gang, but after the gang robs a bank, Tim finds Jack with the holdup money. Because Jack promises to go straight, Tim takes the blame for the robbery and goes to jail. Through the efforts of Ann and the ranger captain, Tim is given a pardon, and after learning that Jack has not kept his promise, Tim rejoins his old outfit. When Tim finally has a showdown with the gang, he is about to be killed, but Jack saves his life. Now sorry for his crimes, Jack joins Tim in pursuit of Miller, and after a chase and gun battle, Miller and his gang surrender. Finally a changed man, Jack decides to go straight and wishes the devoted Tim well in his marriage to Ann.
