Synopsis

In Istanbul, U. S. Secret Service Chief Kelly recruits former agent Mike Rand to discover the identity of The Cobra, the head of a criminal organization that has been smuggling pure opium into the United States. To avenge the death of a girl friend recently killed by the syndicate, Rand gives up his easy life and accepts the mission. Through interrogation of one of The Cobra's agents, Rand obtains a code providing details of the gang's operations. Continuing his search across the Middle East, Rand learns that the opium arrives from China and then is parachuted into the desert, packed into plastic tubes, and shipped through a petroleum pipeline to The Cobra's secret warehouse before being smuggled into the United States. With the assistance of Lou, a woman The Cobra has introduced to drugs, Rand discovers that The Cobra is the well-known financier and shipowner, Stiarkos. In a final gunfight between Stiarkos' men and Secret Service agents, Lou is killed while saving Rand's life, but the consignment of drugs is destroyed. After capturing Stiarkos, Rand decides not to risk the possibility of Stiarkos' evading trial, and so he shoots him. Then, after rejecting Kelly's offer of a high position, Rand exchanges his gun for a few bottles of whiskey and returns to his former aimless existence in Istanbul.
