Synopsis

Prefaced by an interview with its subject, the film chronicles the rise of demimondaine Christine Keeler. Coming to London as a girl, Christine finds employment first as a photographer's model and then as a hostess. At the Murray Club she meets Mandy Rice-Davies, who introduces her to society osteopath Stephen Ward. Although Christine moves into Ward's apartment, she tires of their platonic relationship and leaves the osteopath briefly for West Indian musician Johnny Edgecomb. Following her return, Ward escorts her about town on a dog leash. At a wild swimming pool party she meets British Minister of War John Profumo and Soviet naval attaché Yevgeni Ivanov. Christine's liaisons with both are revealed when disgruntled former lover Edgecomb fires pistol shots through her apartment door, and Scotland Yard is summoned. The ensuing scandal forces Profumo's resignation and Ivanov's return to Russia. Stephen Ward commits suicide, and Christine is sent to prison.
