Quando il marasciallo dei carabinieri Antonio Carotenuto arriva nel piccolo paese di Sagliena, non immagina di trovare e suscitare situazioni sentimentali tanto ingarbugliate. Nel paese infatti abita Mariella detta la "bersagliera" molto bella e seria, innamorata di un carabiniere a cui non osa dichiararsi per non mettersi in urto con Paolina, nipote del parroco, che gli fa la corte. Il maresciallo stesso è oggetto delle attenzioni di Annarella l'ostetrica, molto riservata che nasconde un segreto. Ce n'è più che a sufficienza, vista anche l'attrazione che prova per il "sesso debole", per inguaiare il maresciallo.
