Synopsis

Forty years after Count Regula is beheaded and dismembered for murdering 12 virgins, Baroness Lilian von Brandt, her maid, Babette, and her attorney, Roger Montelis, are summoned by a mysterious messenger to the legendary Blood Castle where the murders were committed. They are joined by Fabian, a thief disguised as a monk, who hopes to rob the castle. As they travel through the ghostly forest festooned with corpses, Roger rescues Lilian and Babette from mummy-like hooded riders, but in the darkness of midnight the women become lost. Not until Roger and Fabian reach the ruins of the castle do they find Lilian and Babette, imprisoned by Anatole, Count Regula's indestructible servant. The dismembered Count Regula, revived by Anatole, announces that he needs the blood of a 13th virgin to achieve immortality and that he is ready to sacrifice Lilian. While Lilian is suspended above a pit of spiders and snakes and subjected to mental torture, Roger is thrown into a pit to be executed by a razor-sharp swinging pendulum. Roger manages to free himself, and, armed with Lilian's diamond-studded cross, he destroys Anatole and Count Regula. The castle crumbles as the four captives make their escape, Roger with Lilian and Fabian with Babette.
