Synopsis
A blind gunslinger, known only as Blindman, rides into a small Southwestern town and confronts a man named Skunk to learn the whereabouts of fifty young women whom Blindman is contracted to take to a mining town as brides for the workers. After Skunk laughingly informs Blindman that outlaw Domingo and his men have taken the women somewhere into Mexico but refuses to specify where, the gunslinger dynamites the brothel where Skunk is staying. Using a special compass and map that he is able to read, Blindman and his horse, Boss, travel into Mexico to San Isidro, where Blindman bribes a young woman named Margherita to provide information on Domingo. Sent by Margherita to an elderly "gringo" blacksmith, Blindman arrives at the man's home just before Domingo's younger brother, Candy, and his cohorts arrive searching for the old man's beautiful blonde daughter, Pilar. After Candy drags Pilar away, his men, led by Pedro, torment and beat up Blindman until he shoots and kills each of them. After Blindman rescues Pilar from Candy, her grateful father promises to help in the return of the fifty women. Meanwhile, Domingo and his sister, Sweet Mama, arrange to sell the fifty women to the military, but upon receiving the money, Domingo's men kill the soldiers and imprison the general. Having taken Candy hostage, Blindman demands the release of the women and is fooled into releasing Candy when Domingo instead provides fifty elderly peasants instead of the women. At the exchange, Sweet Mama attacks Blindman with a knife and takes him back to the family fortress, where he is tortured and threatened with death until he reveals Pilar's location. When a frantic Candy demands the information, Blindman sends them to a mission in the nearby town. After the men depart, Blindman lures the guards to his room and succeeds in killing them, after which he releases the general and assures the women prisoners that he will return for them. After parting with the general, Blindman rides to a mining cave where Pilar and her father are hiding. Providing money to the old man, Blindman instructs him to purchase three wagons, one of which he should fill with dynamite. Arriving at the mission and realizing they have been deceived, Domingo and Candy quarrel. Frustrated by his brother's obsession with Pilar, Domingo knocks him out, but then tells his cohorts, Dude and Jesus, that he intends to get Pilar for Candy anyway. After Pilar's father returns with the wagons and dynamite, he and his daughter join Blindman in transporting them to the hills just outside Domingo's fortress, where they place the dynamite inside abandoned mines. Blindman then rigs several of the mine entrances with the explosive and orders Pilar to hide outside on the other side of the mountain. When Candy notices the wagons and investigates, he finds Pilar's father and, in a fury, kills him. Meanwhile, Pilar spots Domingo and his men returning and goes to the cave to tell Blindman. Moments later, Candy enters the caves and is mesmerized by the sight Pilar's bloomers hanging near a fire. As planned, each time Domingo or his men approach a cave entrance, Blindman sets off an explosion that seals the opening. Growing desperate to locate Pilar in the cave, a jittery Candy responds to each explosion by shooting his pistol wildly, and once Blindman knows the gun's chambers are empty, he steps out from his hiding place and shoots Candy. As Domingo and the others find their way to the mine's main entrance, Blindman and Pilar escape from the back and ride to the fortress to free the captive women. Although the women are eager to torture the cruel Sweet Mama, Blindman orders her dragged into the courtyard and tied to a post, then sends the women to the wagons procured by Pilar's father. Shattered to discover Candy's body in the mine, Domingo returns to the fortress, where he and his men run directly into the women fleeing in the wagons. Panicked, the women jump out of the wagons and race toward the shelter of nearby abandoned mine buildings, but several are shot down while others are attacked and raped by Domingo's men. When Domingo spots Dude about to assault Pilar, he intervenes and takes her captive. Arriving at the fortress courtyard, Domingo is infuriated and shocked to find Sweet Mama nude and tied to the post. As he is about to free her, however, several explosions go off throughout the fortress, scattering the men. Near the mines, Blindman comes upon an empty wagon and rides away. Before dawn the next day, the town gathers for an elaborate funeral service for Candy arranged by the grief-stricken Domingo, who then startles the priest by demanding that he conduct a marriage ceremony for Pilar and his dead brother. As Domingo is about to attack the resistant Pilar, however, several explosions divert him, and Blindman appears to taunt Domingo to come after him. Misdirecting Domingo and his men, who chase a riderless Boss, Blindman summons Pilar, then sneaks into a stable where he is unexpectedly attacked by Sweet Mama, whom he eventually knocks out. Before reuniting with Pilar and Boss, Blindman is attacked by Jesus, whom he kills. Blindman and Pilar then ride to the mine buildings that are now surrounded by several fresh graves of the murdered women. Domingo, Dude and the men arrive and are startled when Blindman throws down his rifle in apparent surrender. As Domingo raises his gun triumphantly, however, a shout from the nearby hill alerts him to the general and his dozens of soldiers, who open fire on Domingo's men. Pilar tells Blindman that Domingo has retreated into a building. Blindman follows, after which the men have a vicious fight before Domingo succeeds in knocking Blindman out. As Domingo is about to shoot Blindman, however, the general arrives and attacks Domingo, burning his eyes with his lit cigar. Now on equal terms, Blindman and Domingo fight again until Blindman retrieves his rifle and shoots Domingo, then blows up the building. Outside, Blindman thanks the general but insists that he still must deliver the remaining women to Texas, as he needs the money. The general appears to acquiesce, but after he rides away with his men, Pilar reveals that the army has taken the women. Undaunted, Blindman summons Boss and rides after them.
