Synopsis

Exposes the destitution, exploitation and virtual slavery of many of the 33 million Hindu widows living in India today. They are forced by age old traditions to live out their remaining years in institutions where they are isolated from and shunned by society at large. In addition to exploring the condition of the lives of these women, the film also focuses on the work of a Canadian woman activist who, having been widowed herself, chose to remain in India to help fight the ignorance which underlies these practices and find ways to promote economic independence and thus freedom for these women.
