Synopsis

Three times a year, the United States Bureau of Land Management rounds up some of the thirty-two thousand wild horses roaming in the American Southwest. Some of these mustangs make the journey to the prison in Canon City at the base of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. There they become part of the Wild Horse Inmate Program, an initiative intended to rehabilitate horse and prisoner alike. Under the supervision of professional trainers, about forty inmates are paired with mustangs in order to train the horses for government service, such as patrolling the border. The training is difficult and dangerous, demanding that horse and man reach new plateaus of patience and understanding. It also prepares them both for a future beyond their respective pens.
