Synopsis
1968. Western Australia. On a vast farm, landowner Rick Anderson lives with his sixteen-year-old son, Ed, as well as the Aboriginal farmhand, Michael Parker, and his son, Paddy. Ed and Paddy were born on the farm on the same day and have always been best buddies. The two families maintain a friendship while grappling with social and racial boundaries. Both boys aspire to be professional boxers, even building their own practice ring within the golden enclosure of the wheat fields. Soon, however, pressures for change come to the farm. A new girl moves into the neighborhood, and Ed's crush proves divisive to his friendship with Paddy. At the same time, the national Aboriginal rights movement is gathering momentum, and the two families find it impossible to sustain their past relationship to one another and to the land.
