Synopsis

Centers on the infamous 1996 Lima siege, when Nestor Cerpa and his Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) took over 400 people hostage at the Japanese Ambassador's Residence. Over the next four months a tragic drama unfolded. The taking of the Residence was a direct attack on the Japanese-born Peruvian President, Fujimori, who had waged a brutal campaign against Peru's insurgent groups. The MRTA had almost been wiped out and hundreds, including Nestor's wife Nancy, languished in prison. Taking the Residence was Nestor's last-ditch effort to free them. Fujimori's response is uncompromising and fatal. With unprecedented access to archival footage, police recordings, and key interviews, the documentary crafts a portrayal of an ultimately all too human story.
