Synopsis
The controversial Swiss non-profit, Dignitas, is the only place in the world where, regardless of nationality, those seeking assisted suicide can legally be helped to die. Dignitas' founder, civil rights lawyer Ludwig Minelli, believes death by choice to be a basic human right. He has helped more than 500 people from 40 countries die a dignified and painless death. Fifty-nine-year-old Craig, an eloquent atheist with terminal Lou Gehrig's disease, wants to end his life before slowly suffocating. Focusing on logistical details so she won't fall apart, Mary, Craig's Catholic wife of 38 years, helps her husband prepare for his last trip to Zurich. George has terminal heart disease and wants to die before his life becomes physically unbearable. Betty, his wife of 49 years, is perfectly healthy, loves her daughters and grandchildren, but is determined to die with her husband as she can't bear to live life without him.
