Synopsis

Esther Clay has been having an affair with Jack Keene, but when he tries to end it, she kills him. Her stepson Robert is an aspiring lawyer, who believes she is his natural mother, and takes the blame for the murder to prevent his father John, the district attorney, from finding out about his wife's infidelity. John resigns from his post to defend Robert, but when Robert refuses to confess his motives, John is reinstated as district attorney and prosecutes Robert into a life sentence in prison. Robert's girl friend, Peg Harper, convinces John of his wife's infidelity by bringing him to Keene's apartment, where they overhear Esther's incriminating conversation with Keene's servant, in which she buys her love letters from him. In his attempt to get the letters, John kills Esther and is tried for murder, while Robert is released from prison. Robert defends his father in the trial and succeeds in gaining an acquittal.

Notes

Although Variety refers to this film as an Action Pictures production, Action Pictures changed its name to Mayfair Pictures Corp. early in 1932. Reviews do not reveal if Robert Clay discovers Esther is not his natural mother by the end of the film.
