Synopsis
On a steamship from Europe to New York, Stella Peck, a gold-digging widow, arranges a date for her attractive, but not too intelligent younger sister, Eva Mills, with Andrew Hoyt, an older New York millionaire, who tries to act as if he is thirty. By concealing Eva's background as a department store clerk from Ypsilanti and encouraging her to flirt with Andrew, even though she prefers good-looking, younger men, Stella succeeds in getting Andrew to propose to Eva. Back in New York, Andrew's secretary, Jane Remington, who secretly loves him, and his partner, Luke Radcliff, receive Andrew's wire requesting them to make preparations for his wedding. They think he means to marry Jane, but when the boat arrives, Jane is bitterly disappointed. The four-week California honeymoon of sunbathing, bicycling, horseback riding, dancing, partying until 4 a.m. and roller coaster riding takes its toll on Arthur, who longs for some intelligent conversation. On their return, Stella moves in with them and uses Arthur's charge accounts quite freely, while Eva flirts with her rhumba instructor. After Arthur confesses to Luke that his marriage is a disaster, Luke schemes to develop an interest between Eva and his young architect, Oliver Denton, and invites the Hoyts for a visit. After Eva and Oliver swim, waterski, go driving and stay out late necking, for which they get arrested, Stella, worried that the marriage will break up, plans to take Eva back to New York. Luke, however, encourages the young lovers to elope. Arthur relievedly accepts this state of affairs, and arranges for Eva and Oliver to go to Reno, but Sonya, whom Oliver said he had divorced, arrives and, after asserting that she and Oliver are still married, demands $5,000 from Andrew before she will divorce him. Andrew pays the money and learns too late that they already were divorced. Arthur accepts the swindle with relief, and when Luke tells him that Jane, who has left, loves him, Andrew runs after her and kisses her.

According to information in the Twentieth Century-Fox Records of the Legal Department at the UCLA Theater Arts Library, Joan Marsh was loaned from M-G-M. The film's running time according to Motion Picture Herald release charts and Film Daily is 76 minutes; Variety, reviewing the New York showing beginning June 24, 1932, lists 64 minutes.
