Synopsis

In 1964 a troupe of actors, half black and half white, travel through Mississippi performing a play intended to encourage voter registration. Although initially they are received warmly in the various churches and barns in which they perform, interest in the propaganda plays gradually falters, provoking arguments and division among the actors. Soon, the group splits up along racial lines, with each group driving off in opposite directions, leaving the head of the play abandoned and alone.
