Synopsis

Nick Johnson's dream of becoming wealthy was realized at the age of 12 when he was adopted by a kindly widow who liked him to call her Aunt Miriam. She jeopardizes Nick's inheritance by becoming romantically involved with a barge captain, and Nick kills her by connecting the strings of her harp to an electric transformer. Continuing his quest for wealth, Nick marries Gigi, a wealthy divorcée, and disposes of her by sending her to outer space in a NATO rocket she is scheduled to launch. His second wife, Lady Fenella Fawcett, a horsewoman, dies in a fall when Nick places a steeplechase hedge in front of a 50-foot deep gravel pit. His third wife, the beautiful Francesca, became a widow when her husband, a 75-year-old count, dropped dead from anticipation en route to his honeymoon villa. As Nick works on his plans for eliminating Francesca, he is unaware that because her marriage to the count was never consummated, it is void in the eyes of the Church and the $5 million inheritance has passed into the hands of the count's brother, Max. Francesca learns of Nick's scheme and decides to kill him for his money. Both hit upon the idea of booby-trapping the other's car. Once the traps have been set they drive off in opposite directions, but neither can go through with the plan, and they race back to warn each other. Deciding that love is more important than money, they settle down for a life of marital bliss. A few years later, Francesca takes in laundry and cooks nightly spaghetti dinners while Nick sits around drinking beer and protecting himself from their two children.
