Synopsis
In order to finally bring to light a story his father had kept hidden in a faded old notebook, Matthias Silcher researches the story of his grandfather Robert, who died in 1937 in Lakehurst as a Hindenburg crew member. His investigation leads him to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen and to one of Robert's former colleagues, Karl Semmle, the only one who witnessed Robert's death. Reluctantly, Semmle breaks his silence and reveals an extraordinary story of devotion and sacrifice. Although Robert had started a family, the Zeppelin was where his heart lay. As Nazi flags fluttered all around and political tension grew, Robert retreated even further into aviation and finally was consumed by the inferno that destroyed the Hindenburg. As it turns out, to save his beloved airship from extinction, Robert sacrificed his life and the Hindenburg.
