Synopsis

The Mafia's history and its integral relationship to Italian politics featured through the photos of Sicilian photojournalist Letizia Battaglia. Whereas in the past the Cosa Nostra would kill only their own, in the 1970s they began assassinating prosecutors and judges, thus producing "excellent cadavers" as Sicilian writer Leonardo Sciascia coined them. Interviews with Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino (both of whom were assassinated in 1992), who led the Maxi-Trials in Palermo, are interwoven with trial highlights, where informants confronted bosses and "soldiers" recounted horrifying stories.
