Synopsis
After an attempted suicide, Sybil meets psychiatrist Dr. Cornelia Wilbur, and confides how she frequently loses her memory and cannot account for large blocks of time. During 11 years of treatments, Sybil is diagnosed with a dissociative identity (mulitiple personality) disorder, a total of 16 distinct personalities with varying age and appearance, which emerged as a way to cope with being abused as a child by her mother.
