Synopsis

A young man moves to a small rural town with his little brother to start a new life, until the past catches up with him. Michael Adler lives in a nameless town somewhere in the northern United States. The young man works in a convenience store with the smart-aleck siren Carly. Michael works hard and keeps his head down. When he goes home at night, though, it's to a cheap motel room that has been the only playroom for his six-year-old brother Dylan. We learn that Michael, still a teenager himself, has kidnapped Dylan to spare him the same abuse that he has suffered at the hands of their father. Hiding from the authorities and haunted by the memories of his own abuse, he turns for solace from his co-worker Carly. Rather than provide equilibrium and safety, his growing feelings for his co-worker, and his increasing paranoia about the police, result in a climactic implosion of Michael's universe.
