Synopsis

Left standing at the altar, Olivia convinces her younger sister Lise that they should leave their remote village in the South of France where there are no eligible bachelors, and set out for new horizons. They go to stay with their Aunt Irma, who runs a boarding house at a small crossroad. Their beauty and exuberance causes a great stir, and Aunt Irma warns the sisters of her boarder Bruno, a devoted womanizer. Bruno quarrels with his brother and sister-in-law and quits the apartment at Aunt Irma's to be closer to his mistress, Clémence. Lise, infatuated with Bruno, tries to lure him away from Clémence, while Olivia carries on an intrigue with a married man. Pursued by Clémence's angry husband, Bruno takes refuge in Lise's room, but her hopes are disappointed when Bruno declares his love for her older sister, and he and Olivia make love.
