Synopsis
While visiting New York City's American Museum of Natural History, four youngsters are especially fascinated by the many exhibits devoted to the earth as it existed during prehistoric times. After seeing all the displays, the boys go rowing in the Central Park lake and discover a cavern concealed by trees and bushes. Their curiosity aroused, they row into the dark cave and enter a river that takes them back 500 million years to the beginning of time. Strange flora and fauna surround them as they encounter giant mammals similar to the ones they had seen only hours before in the museum. After numerous adventures, the boys fall asleep and awaken in the museum.
