Synopsis

As a series of violent feudal wars erupt throughout 17th-century Japan, Jubei, a samurai follower of a defeated warlord, is ordered to escort a young prince and a lady-in-waiting, Kozato, to safety. En route they are constantly set upon by robbers and enemies of Jubei's dethroned lord. They are aided by the intervention of Akashi, a legendary former warlord, who almost single-handedly defeats the enemy with his sword. During the journey, the trio also encounters a beautiful young witch and her brother. Although the witch uses her magical powers to aid Jubei and his charges, she deeply resents the growing love between the samurai and Kozato and periodically threatens to destroy Jubei if he refuses to accept her as his chosen mate. During a final battle between Jubei and the enemies, a giant whirlwind suddenly materializes and scatters the two opposing sides, thereby clearing the way for Jubei to fulfill his mission.
