Synopsis

In a small Sicilian village, Turiddu and Lola are having an affair, a situation simplified by her husband's frequent business trips. The couple were in love years before, but when Turiddu returned home from army service, he discovered that the impatient Lola had married Alfio. Later, Turiddu began courting Santuzza, but Lola quickly became bored with her stolid husband and succeeded in tempting Turiddu to resume their affair. On Easter Sunday, Turiddu follows Lola into church, and when Santuzza tries to stop him, he throws her to the ground. Alfio appears, and Santuzza, in her despair, blurts out the truth about Lola's infidelity. The cuckolded husband challenges Turiddu to a duel, and Turiddu is killed.
