Synopsis

An homage to Ron Santo, the Chicago Cubs' third baseman from 1960 through 1973. For his career, the nine-time All-Star won five Gold Gloves for his defense and finished with 342 homers and 1,331 RBI, which clearly place him among the best to ever play the position. Santo accomplished all this while living with Type 1 juvenile diabetes, which he was diagnosed with in 1958 when he was eighteen. Santo was the first and only position player to play professional baseball with this insidious disease. He played most of his career without revealing his illness for fear that he would be forced to stop playing. The story captures the spirit of a man and his will to achieve--but more importantly a man who refused to allow anything to get him down. Santo is the ultimate optimist, and therefore the ultimate Cub.
