Synopsis

[The following plot summary is based on the Spanish-language version of this film, Un hombre de suerte ; character names refer to that version.] Lucano Barbosa, a young physician, opens a fully equipped medical practice in the center of Madrid to cure just about anything except his own lack of funds. Fortunately for him, news comes that a neighbor is near death from asphyxiation as a result of attempting to swallow an unshelled nut. Although he does not quite understand how he manages it, Lucano's first attempt saves the man. The patient can not pay him, but gives Lucano an old parchment that he says is valuable. On examining the parchment, Lucano discovers a map on the back detailing where a large quantity of gold coins are hidden. Eager to locate the fortune, Lucano takes a job as a chauffeur at a castle referred to in the map. However, Lucano does not anticipate that the spinster owner of the castle will attempt to seduce him or that he will be dismissed as an impostor. An enchanting niece, however, wants to share not only her heart with him, but also the treasure which she has already discovered.

Notes

The title is translated as A Hole in the Wall, but the film is unrelated to the 1921 and 1929 American-made films The Hole in the Wall.
