Synopsis
Grace ignores the pleas of her husband, Ralph Tudor, that it is time to begin a family, and lavishes all her maternal attention on her dog. Then, when Grace does become pregnant, she has an abortion, and a despondent Ralph begins an affair with his secretary, Anna Lee. A few weeks later, Ralph leaves for Brazil on business, and soon thereafter Anna learns that she is pregnant, and then dies in labor. Having changed her mind about becoming a parent, Grace decides to adopt, and so answers the "mother wanted" ad placed in the newspaper by the woman taking care of Anna's baby. Ralph then returns to the United States, and adding to his pleasure at having a child is his and Grace's discovery that he really is the father. Ralph and Grace then are reconciled, and the latter raises the child as if she were herself the natural mother.
