Synopsis

New to the big city, John Wayne, a bank clerk, is duped into selling worthless stock to the customers by the managers, Montgomery Blake and Helen Granger. Before the law arrives, Blake and Granger disappear, leaving John to deal with a four-year prison term. After his jail release, John runs into Blake and Granger while on board a ship. In an ensuing fight, John is thrown overboard, but is rescued by a fishing boat, eventually finding refuge in a nearby village. While studying for the ministry, he falls in love with Katherine Gordon, whose widowed mother is being blackmailed by Blake and Granger. After learning of their plot, John sneaks into Blake's hotel room to steal a marriage certificate that would implicate Katherine's father as a bigamist but is caught by Granger who threatens to expose him as an ex-convict. John chooses to confess his past to his congregation and in the process, absolves not only himself, but Granger as well.
