Synopsis

Although his daughter Vera loves Giles, the new captain of the Morning Star , shipowner Fornton orders her to marry his secretary Fuller. Learning that the Morning Star is unseaworthy, Fuller nonetheless sends it to sea, but the next day, Fornton calls detective Kate Kirby reporting that Vera has disappeared. Kate soon learns that Fuller, a drug addict, already has a wife and child, and later, she convinces him to confess the truth about the Morning Star in exchange for some cocaine. When Kate then refuses him the drug, he attacks her, but her father appears to save her life. Kate boards a small ship and overtakes the doomed vessel, but the next day, it begins to sink during a storm. All are rescued by a passing ship, after which Vera and Giles are reunited with Fornton.
