Synopsis

After her brother Robert enlists in the war, Beam becomes the sole support of her blind father. Forced by her reduced circumstances to rent the vacant rooms in their house, Beam cheerfully attends to her father by regaling him with stories of her brother's heroism, although she knows that he has deserted. Meanwhile, Beam meets and falls in love with wealthy Donald Morton. One day, while reading to her father of her brother's bravery, Robert returns. While she is concealing him in a room upstairs, Donald discovers Beam embracing her brother, and to protect Robert, Beam explains that the man is a new boarder. Donald, suspicious, leaves the house. Later Robert's courage is restored after he rescues Beam from an assault by one of her boarders. Hearing his son's voice, his father proclaims him a hero. At that moment, Robert's commanding officer notifies the soldier to report back to camp as his absence had been concealed by a furlough. Robert returns to the army, with his honor intact, Donald discovers that Beam has been faithful to him and all ends happily.
