Synopsis
Edison summary: One of the grandest and most perilous scenes at Luna Park. A busy street scene is shown. Trolley cars, horses and wagons, carriages, and automobiles pass up and down the thoroughfare. Suddenly a fire breaks out in a paint store located in the center of a block of modern New York apartment houses. The flames spread rapidly and the exit of the tenants is soon cut off. Numerous women and children appear at the windows of the upper stories and cry for help. Everything seems to be in confusion. An alarm of fire is sounded and soon the fire fighting apparatus appears on the scene. The hose is rapidly coupled to the engines and hydrants, ladders are run up the sides of the buildings, scaling ladders and ropes are hooked on the window sills and the firemen hastily climb them and rescue men and women from their dangerous positions. A number of windows cannot be reached by the firemen, and below these the life-savers stretch their nets. Men and women leap from the top of the buildings, and are safely landed on the ground. While the work of rescue is going on, three fire engines pump water into the burning structure, and eventually the flames are subdued. A most realistic fire scene full of action and that will hold any audience spellbound.
