Synopsis

A jazz pianist turned promoter is financially successful but has become cynical and bored with his life. About to quit his work, he decides to travel to Moscow with one of his bands. In Russia, he befriends a youthful dissident who is also a trumpet player. Despite the disapproval of the Japanese embassy and the boy's brother, a youth leader, the promoter encourages the young musician. The youth is jailed after a fight, and the promoter, whose enthusiasm for his work had been stirred, once again finds himself alone and restless.
