Synopsis

In present-day Tokyo, a 17-year-old boy named Shun accidentally meets a young girl, Nanami, and is immediately attracted to her. Although they rent a hotel room for a few hours, Shun is too embarrassed and insecure to go through with his intentions, and instead of making love to Nanami he talks about his life. He tells the attentive girl that he lost his father when he was very young and that his mother abandoned him in order to remarry. He was taken in by foster parents, and his home life became uncomfortable because of his foster father's unfatherly attentions. He now finds escape from his dull job as a metal worker by going to the park to feed the pigeons and play games with a little girl. After listening to Shun's story, Nanami explains that when she came to the city she soon discovered that the most lucrative way to earn her living was to become a nude model. Several days later, while he is innocently playing with the little girl in the park, Shun's behavior is misconstrued, and, after being accused of being a child molester, he is beaten up and arrested. A psychiatrist examines him and concludes that Shun's past is preventing him from having a normal attitude toward girls and the world in general. Nanami, meanwhile, has progressed from mere nude modeling to posing for lesbian sado-masochistic photo sessions. Eventually, the two teenagers meet again and attend a university carnival where they watch a student film made by one of Nanami's friends. Although the picture, A Record of First Love , is amateurish and awkward, both Nanami and Shun are moved by its honesty, and they make a date to meet again at the same hotel. Shun, on his way to the hotel, runs into the men for whom Nanami performs in the nude. When they demand to know where she is, Shun refuses to tell them and breaks away. Running wildly through the streets, he is struck down by an automobile and dies in front of the hotel where Nanami is waiting to keep their rendezvous.
