Synopsis

Excerpts from newsreels are used to trace the political developments in Greece from the accession to the throne in 1913 of Constantine I and the end of the Balkan Wars, through World War I, war with Turkey in the 1920s, changes of government between the two World Wars, World War II and the German occupation, the end of the war, and finally the defeat of rebelling Communist E.L.A.S. forces. The film focuses on the turmoil and factionalism that shook the country as it passed through war, revolution, monarchy, republican government, and dictatorship. Among the personalities who receive attention are Greek republican leader Eleutherios Venizelos, dictator General Joannes Metaxas, King George II, Mussolini, Hitler, and Winston Churchill.
