Synopsis
Marie, a trolley conductress in Prague, tearfully abandons her trolley, causing a traffic jam, when she sees her husband, Vaclav, kissing a blonde at the airport terminal. She then withdraws all her bank savings, visits a fashion show and a beauty parlor, and transforms herself into a new, glamorous woman. Vaclav, meanwhile confronted by angry transport officials, guesses that Marie saw him at the terminal. When Marie arrives home with her "new look," Vaclav is alarmed at first by her expenditures, but later, after too many drinks at a company party, he becomes enamored of his beautified wife. Marie takes the drunken Vaclav to the blonde's apartment and flippantly tells her rival how Vaclav likes his food prepared. Leaving them alone, Marie watches a heftily-built man enter the blonde's apartment and then hears noises of a tremendous fight. Going on to a nightclub, Marie flirts with some customers, one of whom is a detective who books her at the police station for soliciting. Trying to explain the situation, Marie is surprised to see Vaclav, the blonde, and the hefty man, Bedrich, brought in for disturbing the peace. Seeing that Vaclav has a black eye, Marie punches Bedrich, but although Bedrich is a professional boxer, he has a gentle disposition and falls for Marie because of her spunk. Continuing to punish Vaclav, who is now doing the housework, Marie goes on a trip with Bedrich, followed by Vaclav, the blonde, and a number of new admirers. Determined to win Marie back, Vaclav takes boxing lessons and challenges Bedrich to a match. On the day of the fight the hall is filled with trolley conductresses who are hoping that Vaclav will lose because he has been unfaithful. Vaclav is knocked out in the first round, and the spectators cheer Bedrich, while Marie jumps into the ring and raises Vaclav's arm, forgiving him.
