Synopsis

Art critic Max Aaronson is killed by a hit-and-run driver after informing London art dealers Arnold and Vicky Woolf that their famous Van Meerbeke painting is a fake. Texas oil magnate Bill Robson offers to pay any price for the original painting, and he buys another by the same artist. Assigned to investigate the case, Scotland Yard Inspector Sharkey learns of Aaronson's death from Genevieve Beaujean, a French magazine reporter; later, Sharkey rescues her from an unknown assailant who is subsequently found murdered. The detective goes to the bungalow of Michael Lucas, an art restorer and Mrs. Woolf's lover, and proves that Lucas was the killer and forger.
