Synopsis

Louise Lloyd, an innocent country girl, moves to New York City and applies for a job at the Hollister Employment Agency, which is actually a front for illegal activity perpetrated by Dave Wilson, an expert check forger. Wilson falls for Louise, but the attraction is not mutual, and Louise eagerly takes a job as a governess in Frank Knowlton's household, where she falls in love with Joseph, his son. Because of his striking resemblance to the rich Mr. Hart, Dave succeeds in forging one of his checks for $35,000, and by chance, Knowlton, a criminologist, is assigned to investigate. In a contest of wills, Dave impersonates Knowlton's butler and then overhears Joseph and his father discussing the details of Knowlton's will. Later that evening, Wilson alters the name on the will but is interrupted by Frank. During the ensuing fight, Wilson is left for dead but is discovered by Louise. Through an ingenious trick, Louise gets Wilson, who has been revived, to reveal that he had tampered with the will. In the end, Louise marries Joseph.
