Synopsis

Forced by circumstances to choose between the street and theft, Mary Murdock is caught breaking into the home of Robert Howard and is sentenced to prison. Unable to find employment after serving her prison term, Mary seeks out Howard and finds him about to commit suicide, despondent over his wife's leaving him for another man. Mary saves his life and convinces him to champion the cause of prison reform, in which he proves so successful that he is appointed warden, placing him in conflict with the political boss. To block the warden's reforms, the political ring sets up a compromising situation between Howard and Nan Travers. In an endeavor to clear Howard's name, Mary works on the jealousy of Nan, who is in love with the assistant warden, by pretending to be infatuated with the man. Mary's scheme is successful when Nan, in an effort to get even, confesses all and clears Howard's name.
