Synopsis

Newly arrived in New York, Helen finds it impossible to earn a living, and soon must sleep on the streets, until Bruce, the son of a wealthy businessman, falls in love with her and gets her a job in a department store. When Bruce's father hears about his son's romance with a working-class woman, however, he kicks him out of the house and refuses to support him. Nevertheless, Bruce and Helen get married, and then, when Bruce is injured, Helen becomes an actress to earn more money. Bruce's father, who has never met his daughter-in-law, sees Helen perform, and begins showering her with gifts. Helen, aware of the old man's identity, encourages him, and then allows him to come home with her so that she can force a meeting between father and son. Her plan to effect a reconciliation between the two men works, after which the young couple's financial security is assured.
