Synopsis

Although her social-climbing aunt puts pressure on her to marry the wealthy, self-centered John Astorbilt, Prudence wants her husband to be more of a hero than a hedonist, and so she refuses John's proposal. Later, influenced by the pirate stories that Meeks, the family butler, used to tell her, Prudence rents an old ship complete with a motley crew of sailors, and makes plans to become a female Blackbeard. For her first act of piracy, she kidnaps her aunt and John and assigns them to hard labor on the ship. The work makes a new man out of John, and when a fire breaks out on board, he rescues Prudence, who is trapped in a cabin below deck. Afterward, now proud of John and convinced of his heroism, Prudence gladly trades in her career as a pirate for one as Mrs. Astorbilt.
