Synopsis
Claire Martin, who lives in Great Neck, Long Island, with her wealthy aunt, is stricken with amnesia and wanders into the woods. After various adventures with rough characters, she seeks shelter at the cabin of New York sportsman Scott Houghton who, after a week, decides to satisfy his desire for her. After Houghton finds Claire in her weakened state, embracing a passing rider, he brands her breast with a knife wound and sets the cabin afire. Claire escapes, and when a ruffian throws her down an embankment, her memory returns. At home, she becomes engaged to editor Howard Kent. After Houghton traces her to Great Neck, Claire, who does not remember him, goes to his houseboat, where he explains that the scar means that she is his. When he tries to rape her, Claire stabs him to death. Although Kent and her doctor, who believe her to be innocent because of her altered mental state, try to protect her, Houghton's nephew Charles learns the truth. Because he is sought by the police, however, Charles does not inform. With Kent's care, Claire's memory returns, and they marry.
