Synopsis

Darcelle, a fugitive spy posing as a wealthy sophisticate, intercepts the mail of Paula Farrell, an American music student living in Paris, and steals money sent to her by her family. Learning of her family's financial problems, Paula succumbs to Darcelle's advances in order to support her ailing mother. To keep her in Paris, Darcelle gives Paula the stolen money, which she sends home with a false tale of financial success. Following Mrs. Farrell's death, Marjorie, Paula's younger sister, comes to Paris, where she learns of her sister's affair. While Paula watches an Apache dance at a cabaret, Darcelle attacks Marjorie in Paula's apartment. After Marjorie stabs herself, Paula finds her dying. Impressed by the cabaret performance in which a woman murders her unfaithful lover, Paula tries to kill Darcelle, but fails. After a former victim of Darcelle's tells the police that Darcelle is a spy, the police and Paula's American sweetheart, Tom Austin, break into the room. Darcelle is fatally injured jumping from a window. Paula's explanation effects a reconciliation with Austin.
