Synopsis

Feeling the call of his ancestral country, Robert Emmett Corrigan, a young American of Irish birth, sets sails for Ireland. His sweetheart Kathleen promises to follow him with her mother. Upon arriving in Adair, Robert swears allegiance to Sinn Fein, the party fighting for Ireland's independence from Britain. Soon after, Robert is captured by the British army and sentenced to die in front of a firing squad. Just before the execution takes place, however, Robert escapes. When Kathleen arrives, she is captured by Robert's enemies, who plan to use her to trap him. Their scheme works, but after they seize Robert, Kathleen escapes with the help of the warden. After a series of events, Robert is freed and returns to America in the hope of winning sympathy for Ireland. Before he leaves, he promises to return to Kathleen once victory is attained.
