Synopsis
Jim Simpson is a stranger to the area called "The Valley of Bad Men," where he has come to take over the ranch that his father was forced to abandon. County attorney, Mr. Horton, remembers that Jim's father's land was sold to Ed McQueen for taxes, although Jim insists that they always paid their taxes. Unknown to Jim, Horton has conspired with McQueen to cheat the Simpsons out of their ranch. Jim meets Barbara Anderson when he rescues her from a runaway horse. McQueen, who intends to marry Barbara himself, tries to prevent Jim from receiving his cattle by declaring them to be diseased, but Jim, who had them inspected at the state line, is able to prove they are healthy. After Barbara turns down McQueen's proposal because she does not love him, McQueen's men bomb Jim's ranch, injuring him slightly. When McQueen learns that Jim is still alive, he decides to smoke him out, and when this fails, he shows the sheriff illegal papers to prove that he is trespassing. Abie Rosenberg, an itinerent salesman, overhears Horton talking about Simpson's tax records and tells Jim. With this knowledge, Jim and his sidekick, Half Pint, trick Horton into opening his safe, and they then remove the records that prove that Jim still owns the ranch. With the help of the sheriff, Horton, McQueen and their men are rounded up. Jim gets his ranch back, and he and Barbara plan to wed.
