Synopsis

In the vast grazing plains beneath Mt. Kenya in Africa, Edwin Hurd, Jr. and his father Edwin Hurd, Sr. join a hunter and a group of natives on a journey in search of wildlife and native culture. As they drive, they pass gazelles, wildebeests and the mule-like Topi, as well as a native village where men are draining blood from a young ox, which they then mix with milk and drink as a main part of their diet. Returning to the plains in their truck, the group spots a sprinting cheetah, ostriches and snakes, among other animals. Along their travels, Hurd, Sr. shoots and kills an elephant planning to bring home its tusks as a trophy. As their journey comes to a close, they explain that "Karambi" is the "intuitive instinct" of the primitive tribes that helps them achieve a better life, although the narrator concludes that the United States is the model of affording the average man with real opportunities for civilization.
