Synopsis

Awakened by the ringing of her alarm clock, Julianne tumbles out of bed and pulls on her stockings. Soon after, a telegram from her beau Jack arrives, notifying her that he will be arriving in New Orleans at seven o'clock that night. At the appointed hour, Jack knocks at the door and tells Julianne that he has to leave for New York in five hours. Julianne explains that she must go to work and suggests that Jack go to a bookstore while she is busy. The straightlaced Jack thinks that Julianne is employed as a secretary, but in reality she is the starring act in a burlesque show at the Moulin Rouge. There, Pat Patrick, the master of ceremonies, introduces Sheila Lane, who dances a demure striptease. Sheila is followed by comedians Bob Carney and Harry Rose, who perform a skit peppered with double-entendres about bullfighting. Later in the show, Bob and Harry present a satire about a husband who decides to kill his wife by exhausting her with sex and a skit about two drunks at a train station. Interspersed with their skits, Stormy steams up the eyeglasses of a man in the audience with her sultry strip and Pork Chops and Kidney Stew tap dance to Dixieland music. Next, Alouette Le Blanc shows her artistry in spinning tassels attached to strategic points of her costume, and Colette D'Ray transfixes the audience with her sensuality. Meanwhile, becoming bored with walking the streets of the French Quarter, Jack decides to stop at the Moulin Rouge and is amazed when Julianne comes onstage and begins to peel off the strips of fur dangling from her skimpy costume. Upon spotting Jack in the audience, Julianne suddenly becomes inhibited, but he encourages her to continue. After the show, Jack and Julianne go back to her apartment where he kisses her, thus assuring her that all is well. They are interrupted by a phone call for Jack, informing him that he has to leave for the airport. After a passionate embrace, Jack departs, leaving Julianne to hug her pillow in frustration.
