Synopsis

Deputy Sheriff Charlie Leland never tires of watching the wild horses that live in a valley adjoining his ranch. Rustlers led by Blackie Sanders, who was discharged from his job as foreman on Charlie's ranch, have been moving large herds of cattle through the valley. However, Sheriff Cal Schrum is tracking Sanders and posts a $10,000 reward notice for his capture. Cal is also after Jake, one of Blackie's gunmen, for murder. In the town of Pecos, ranchers complain to Cal that Charlie is ineffective against the rustlers, so Cal and his friend, old-timer Pappy, ride to find Charlie. After a shootout with a rifleman guarding an old mine entrance, Cal and Pappy see wild horses fighting and spot Charlie's horse, with saddle, in the herd. Cal decides to follow the herd and sends Pappy back for reinforcements. Later, Cal returns to town with Charlie's horse, and Mary, Charlie's sister, confirms that it is his. Cal forms a posse to look for Charlie, which Mary wants to join, but she is told to remain in town. Meanwhile, Blackie has ordered two of his men to kidnap Mary, which they do as she attempts to follow the posse. When Mary's horse returns to town by itself, Pappy rides to investigate on his donkey, Josephine. After Mary is taken to Blackie and left alone with him, he attempts to kiss her. Pappy arrives and shoots at Blackie and his men. The gunshots alert Cal and the posse, who chase after the gang and force them into a rocky area. After a lengthy gunfight, Blackie emerges and challenges Cal to come and get him. Blackie draws first but Cal shoots the gun from his hand and, after handing him over to the posse, runs through the rocks after Jake. During a fistfight on a cliff top, Cal knocks Jake over the side, sending him to his death. With the rustlers cleaned out, Cal, Pappy and Mary reunite and ride off together. Peace returns to Wild Horse Valley.
