The Clown with the Portable Body
Brief Synopsis

Synopsis
Edison summary: The funniest of all mystical pictures yet produced. The clown appears at the mouth of a cave. Seating himself upon a stool he orders one of his arms to leave his body and go over to a chair where a bottle is setting and bring the bottle to him. He then sends the other arm for a glass which is placed on another chair. A burning candle is nearby, and the clown having a pipe in his mouth, he suddenly causes his head to leave his body; go over to the candle, light the pipe and return to him. Next each of his legs leave his body and going over to the two stools seat themselves and begin dancing jigs. The clown's entire body, then separates, the head soaring in the air and the arms and legs dancing around in a fantastic manner. Finally, the different portions of the body come together again, and the clown is once more whole. He then removes his head and placing it upon the floor, walks of (sic) the stage headless, dancing around in a most puzzling and ludicrous manner.
Méliès summary : This is one of the best and most mysterious films ever produced. A clown sits down in the centre of the picture, and his legs, arms and head travel all round the room, there being not the slightest doubt that they are genuine, living limbs. The film closes by the clown sitting in his head. Absolutely unique.
