Synopsis

Edison summary: The professor shows his power to Mephisto by mysteriously placing a young lady in a swing. Mephisto then shows his power by making the young lady disappear from the swing, to the surprise of the professor. The professor makes another mystic pass and produces a second young lady then in the swing, and also a skeleton.
       Selig summary: The magician introduces his audience first to an empty swing, the emphatically stamps his foot, summons Mephisto to his aid, who mysteriously produces a young and beautiful lady seated in the empty swing. The magician starts forward to embrace the young lady when to his intense surprise a repulsive dwarf appears. He turns to remonstrate with Mephisto when the dwarf vanishes and the lady again appears in the swing. The magician makes another attempt to grasp the fair one, who this time mysteriously changes to a grinning skeleton. The film terminates with the disappearance of both skeleton and Mephisto in a cloud of smoke.
