Lifting the Lid

Biograph summary: This amusing comedy production covers the experiences of a country couple who come to New York to see the sights. They start out on Broadway in the vicinity of the Metropolitan Opera House on a sight-seeing coach personally conducted by a glib young man with a megaphone. They visit in succession a Bowery dance hall, a Chinese restaurant, a Chinese opium den and an Oriental dance hall. In each place they have many laughable experiences. The exteriors of other well-known New York resorts are shown in each instance with the couple entering. Then the scene transfers to the interior. The subject is somewhat spicy, but is unobjectionable in every way and has made a decided hit wherever shown.
