Synopsis

Lubin summary: 1. The Conjuror's Lottery. 2. The Fantastic Fowl's House. 3. Ephemerial Fortune. 4. The Miser's Punishment This film is a splendid reproduction of the well-known fable in which a poor peasant wins in a lottery a hen. This wonderful chicken lays eggs of an unusually large size, which are filled with gold dollars. The poor peasant soon builds a large castle and keeps the chicken in a golden cage. Every night he hides his treasure in the cellar, and is heart-broken when one night he is robbed by two burglars. Just at this time, when he is without gold, some bills are presented to him for payment, and in his rage for riches he kills the hen, thinking that in its body he will find a fortune. With the death of the hen all his accumulated wealth vanishes and he has to return to his old poor place.
